I am an emerging artist with a passion for storytelling, fantasy, children’s book illustration, and visionary art.
The children’s book illustrators who created the pictures that I loved as a child, particularly the artists of the Golden Age of Illustration, inspire me. This has influenced my style, which is decorative and ethereal, underlined by strong line work and design.
I enjoy exploring the possibilities of different techniques, including traditional media, printmaking and digital.
Animals and nature inspire me. I like to feature these subjects in my art, giving them personality, individuality, and hero status in the image. This year, the theme running through my art has been the special contribution made by companion animals to our lives.

The Art of Reclining
Ink and digital. Children’s book illustration. 19cm X 25cm.
I have been developing some illustrations for a children’s book. This image started off as a plan for a Linocut, but I eventually rendered it digitally due to lockdown.

The Fool
Ink and digital. Oracle/Tarot card design. 15.5cm X 23.5cm.
I have been developing a series of images for Tarot or Oracle cards based around animals and nature. The Tarot uses pictures, archetypes and symbols to tell the story of the hero’s journey through life. In my images I have made the hero a dog and have transformed the archetypes it meets on the journey into mythical creatures. But within the images I have retained the traditional symbolism of the Tarot, which is the language of the sub conscious.

Unicorn and Grid Line Drawing
Ink. Line drawing with superimposed grid plan for “Unicorn Dreaming.” 94cm X 75cm.
This line drawing is a layout plan for “Unicorn Dreaming.” “Unicorn Dreaming” has been designed as an image to be printed across the back of the 78 cards of a Tarot deck. Each rectangle on the grid represents the back of a card, and each card will have a small part of the image on it. The design on the back of individual cards will appear as an isolated abstract pattern. It is only when all the cards are laid out in a predetermined order, like a jigsaw puzzle, that the full image will be apparent.

Unicorn Dreaming
Ink and digital. Poster or image for back of cards. 94cm X 75cm
The Unicorn is resting under the Tree of Life, surrounded by the four elements of fire, water, air and earth. The image can be broken up into 78 equal parts to create abstract images for the back of the cards in a Tarot deck. The cards can be reassembled like a jigsaw to create the entire image.

Sheep Friends
Drypoint etchings hand coloured with watercolour pencil. Images for an Artist’s Book. Each image 10cm X 11.5cm

I had the pleasure of becoming friends with a flock of sheep, getting to know them as individuals. Sheep are quirky, sensitive, and full of personality. They have best friends and strong family connections within the flock and recognise and form bonds with individual humans and dogs as well as every other sheep in the flock. I have tried to capture some of the faces in the flock, putting them next to their dog-friend to show that they deserve the same compassion and understanding as our companion animals. Enjoy the faces of Buttercup, Ziggy, Elf, Daffodil, Boo and Jonquil with their dog-friend Misu.
