JOCELYN DEXTER
I have a passion for fairy tales, myths, fantasy, nature, and esoteric subjects. These interests are reflected in my art. As an emerging artist I specialise in children’s book illustration, visionary art and fantasy art.
I aim to create images of depth and beauty, which connect emotionally with the viewer.
In children’s book illustration, I aim to create a world of magic that stimulates the imagination and inspires the child to read.
I create my art both digitally and with traditional mixed media. Colour, movement, decorative elements and layers of symbolism characterize my style.
I will complete the Diploma of Visual Arts (Illustration) in 2020. The teachers in this Course are wonderful artists and mentors, so generous with their knowledge and support. For this reason I am looking forward to continuing to develop my illustration skills through studying The Advanced Diploma of Creative Development in 2021.

Moon Gazing

The hare is the sacred animal of Ostara, the Goddess of Renewal and Rebirth. It was believed that the hare lived in the moon and that seeing a hare gazing at the moon would bring good luck and abundance. The Goddess Ostara and her sacred moon gazing hare are a significant pairing to represent the end of 2020, as we come out of lockdown and re enter the world renewed.

Silver Brumbies

“The Silver Brumby” by Elyne Mitchell was my favourite book as a child. I read it over and over and was quite convinced that when I grew up I would become a silver brumby! This image is a tribute to that book and to the iconic High Country brumbies, which are currently being relentlessly persecuted and slaughtered.
