ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hiroki first picked up a camera when he was in junior high school. From there, he loved to photograph sports, especially baseball. His life took a different turn when he attended the World University Baseball Championship tournament in Taiwan in 2018, accompanying the Japanese national team as their official photographer.

A chance encounter with a Taiwanese professional sports photographer, who was standing next to him at the closing ceremony, changed his life. It strengthened his desire to go abroad. He wanted to study photography more professionally, so he chose Melbourne as a place where he could learn English and study photography.
So he crossed the ocean.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
“Blue Sky”
My series of work is called 'Blue Sky'. When Melbourne experienced the longest lockdown in the world. With no relatives or family, and not being an Australian citizen, I was forced to return home. There were many days when I felt so alone that I stayed in my room. The song "上を向いて歩こう (English translation: Sukiyaki Song)," which was popular in the United States in the 1960s, came to my mind.
"Let's walk with our eyes upward. Don't let your tears spill.”
This series forms part of a record of my life in Melbourne, where I have been looking to every day, to avoid spilling tears in the midst of this global crisis.
