My name is Em Munro, I specialise in visual development and character design for the animation industry. Since childhood I has been passionate about cartoons and storytelling, admiring the way that the details of a design - such as a character’s gesture, their shape language, or the rendering technique - tell a story of their own.

One of the biggest inspirations for my design work is Nineties Japanese animation, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Akira, and the works of Satoshi Kon. From these, I take a focus on semi-realistic anatomy, simplistic colour palettes featuring bold reds and muted browns, and straightforward shading techniques, allowing a character’s personality to shine through without being overwhelmed by busy or complex design.
