Hola, I’m Daniela Forero Moreno, but everyone knows me by the name Dani Designs on social media. I’m a Colombian graphic designer and illustrator based in Melbourne. I have been a girl with an artistic vision in every way, my taste for street dancing, pop music and Pixar movies have been present at every stage of my life allowing me developing more potential to achieve my dreams. My nationality also empowers my art and is where I get most of my ideas.
Over the last couple of years, I have determined my style by thick outlines and bright colour palettes. I enjoy creating portraits of people that have been influential in some point of my life, showing the way I perceive them through my eyes and mind. One day I want to complete a series of portraits of Latin people who have motivated me to live abroad and to pursue my dreams around the world.

Holy Miley - Digital

The famous American singer Miley Cyrus as the Virgin Mary. I admire her because she has taken her professional career to the top by getting all the job done, being productive and create new art all the time. If she feels in her comfort zone, she’ll jump into new adventures and this is how she has found herself as a person, found her style and she shine by herself. Miley is a woman who empowers and love herself and inspires me to always fight for my future, to get where I want with confidence.

They Are Killing Us - Digital

Mon Laferte is a great singer form Chile, her songs are really powerful and full of real emotions that you can feel while listening to them. This illustration of her was inspired by her presence in the Latin Grammys of 2019 where she exposed her chest writing down on it ‘In Chile people gets torture, raped and killed’.

In Latin America, the levels of violence and homicides are high and in the past 2 years are increasing. There are a couple of social movements that have taken place in all the countries and have been part of my inspiration for this piece. One of those is the feminist movement that goes by the name ‘Ni una mas’ that in English translates ‘Not One More’ and their signature is green and purple bandanas. The other movement is related with the violent acts that the police have with the citizens and goes with the name ‘Nos Estan Matando’ that in English translates ‘They’re Killing Us’

Kobe Bryant - Digital. An American professional basketball player who was an amazing person as well, who raised 4 beautiful daughters died this year in a tragic accident. This illustration was created for a police officer from Melbourne living in Mildura who worked in the bushfires at the beginning of the year helping people evacuate their houses. He’s also a basketball player, biggest fan of Kobe Bryant who was devastated with his dead.

Jhennifer - Digital. This beautiful Colombian woman hired me on my first job behind the bar. Apart of teaching me the basics, she also took care of me as family. Fantastic human who also believed in second chances, helped me in my worst moments and made me realize I deserved better in life.

He IS Racist - Digital. The character I chose is Donald trump, he is the present USA president. I don’t really like him and don’t follow him in any way. Actually, I illustrated him to critique his way of addressing the current situation. Trump is a really rude person who doesn’t know a decent way to speak making him loose respect from others. On one side, the way he refers to immigrants and black people is despicable and vile, on the other side, he makes very demeaning and sexiest comments every time he talks about women. He’s a controversial person and someone not very trustworthy. In ‘The Washington Post’ they talked about the new platform ‘The Fact Checker’ that was created to prove the veracity of his statements and they also assure that Trump has made 19127 false or misleading claims in 1226 days. Even the presidential historian Douglas Brinkley have talked about it and I quote “There is no president that lied as if they were a form of breathing, except Donald Trump”. There’s are more reasons why I don’t like this character and reasons I don’t agreed with his acts, but this are the main ones why I despise him.

Tata - Digital

My grandma is the person I call every day, I can’t go through my day if I don’t call her. I miss spending time with her. She’s having a bad time at home because Bogotá it’s been colder than normal and we’re the same, can’t handle the cold weather.

Laura - Digital

My best friend is like the sister I never had. I really miss doing everything with her, specially because we like to stay in bed and watch Disney movies together or cooking. She graduated from university this year and we couldn’t celebrate together and she got an amazing job doing what she loves that keeps her extremely busy all week so we barely talk.

Blanquita - Digital. She was my nanny until I was 13, she basically raised me while my parents were at work. She taught me so many things and is the kindest person. She’s been really sick and makes me really sad that I can’t be there with her.

Dad - Digital. My dad is the one who is helping me achieves my goals and who taught me how to dream big. When I lived with my parents, we used to watch a lot of movies together and he would’ve made me laugh all day every day, he would dance around the house and being silly. I really missed my dad, quarantine would’ve been amazing with him.

Thommy - Digital. My little cousin is growing up so much. He’s really smart like his sister, he’s also funny and likes to try new things all the time like me. I miss spending time with him because with him I can be like the big sister I’ll never be because I don’t have siblings.

Tiita - Digital. My aunty always helped me when I was in trouble, was really patient with me and listened to me when I was afraid to talk with someone else. She has lost 2 very important people on her life in the past months and I wish I could be with her to give her big hugs.
