ABOUT THE ARTIST

Charlie’s interest in photography grew with mobile technology – enjoying the mindfulness that comes with always having an eye out for a good shot. After being selected as a finalist for the Bowness Prize in 2016, she decided it was time to learn how to shoot with a dedicated camera.

Charlie has always been drawn to past eras – looking out for things from days gone by. Her series explores the idea of ‘other worlds’, juxtaposing the familiar remnants of old worlds long gone, with the banality of Melbourne’s urban sprawl, all under the cover of darkness.

“I am fascinated by the sense of drama and stillness that is not present in the rush of daily life. What by day can seem far from unusual, by night takes on a beauty and stillness all of its own; like a whole new mysterious world”.
