Diploma of Visual Arts (Illustration)
I am a mixed media artist working primarily with pen and ink, gouache, and recently textile mediums. I love the process of mark making and exploration of colour in every medium. I let my feelings and the medium itself guide my artmaking process from beginning to end. My work is informed by my lived experience of complex mental health and disability, interpersonal relationships and a melting pot of aesthetic influences. I am influenced by alternative fashion, toys, cartoons, and conversely the natural world, animals and the Old Masters and classical religious painting. I create characters to fulfil my concepts, focusing on elaborate colour palettes and gestural line drawings. I am finishing my second year of the Diploma and hope to focus next year on furthering my personal art practice outside of TAFE and I hope to pursue further study in art theory and teaching.
