Policewoman 行
2019
Ink, synthetic polymer paint, paper on found cardboard
105 x 102cm

This portrait is from a series based on photographs of people who attended the s11 protests in Melbourne, September 2000.
Kanji (漢字) are pictures. Kanji are also words. Faces in portraits are pictures. But we also read faces. So I arbitrarily assigned certain faces to stand in for certain words, in this case行. But 行only in the context of the Buddhist Heart Sutra. The other 120 faces that make up that text are elsewhere.
